CompTIA Security+ Digital Badge: How to Share and Verify Your Certification

Anyone researching Security+ digital badge eventually runs into the same question: what does Security+ actually demand? CompTIA's current Security+ exam is SY0-701, launched on November 7, 2023. It is a single-exam certification priced at $425, capped at maximum of 90 questions, timed at 90 minutes, and scored on a 100–900 scale with 750 required to pass.

How CompTIA digital badges work

When you pass Security+, CompTIA issues a digital badge through Credly. The badge contains metadata — your name, the certification name, the issue date, and the issuing organization — and is hosted at a public URL that anyone can use to verify your credential. Employers and recruiters can confirm the badge is authentic directly through the Credly platform.

How to share your badge

From your Credly account, you can share the badge URL, download a badge image for your resume or email signature, and connect the badge directly to your LinkedIn Licenses and Certifications section. LinkedIn will display the verified badge with a link to Credly for recruiter verification.

When sharing with employers, the Credly URL is more credible than a screenshot because it provides a live verification link. Some employers specifically request the Credly URL or credential ID rather than a screenshot of a certificate.

Renewal and badge expiration

Security+ requires 50 CEUs in a three-year renewal cycle. When you renew, your Credly badge is updated with a new validity period. Badges that have expired show as expired on Credly — keeping up with renewal maintains your publicly visible credential status.
