CompTIA Security+ Score Report: How to Read It and What to Study Next

Updated March 21, 2026·6

Security+ is broad, vendor-neutral, and tied to real exam constraints. The current CompTIA exam is SY0-701. It costs $425, allows maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes, and requires 750 on a scale of 100-900 to pass.

How to read your score report

CompTIA's score report provides a scaled score plus domain-level performance indicators. The scaled score tells you whether you passed (750 or above) or how far below passing you landed. The domain breakdown shows relative performance across the five SY0-701 domains.

Do not treat all domain feedback equally. A weakness in Security Operations (28%) costs more than a weakness in General Security Concepts (12%). Prioritize remediation based on domain weight.

What to study next based on your report

If your score report shows weakness in Security Operations, focus on incident response phases, monitoring and logging tools, IAM operations, and hardening techniques. If Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations was weak, drill attack types, vulnerability classification, and mitigation strategies. If Security Architecture was weak, review network segmentation, cloud security models, and zero trust principles.
